Be part of a community that takes action to protect children by volunteering with us. We have volunteer opportunities to suit a variety of schedules, skills, and interests — from serving meals to our families to answering calls for our parent helpline.
Individual
All of our individual volunteer opportunities require a volunteer application, interviews, training, and ongoing commitments ranging from six weeks to a year.
Group
Whether you’re volunteering with your workplace, church, school, or another community group, there are several group volunteer opportunities that are suitable for teams of 5 – 25 volunteers.
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 9:00am–10:00pm; Sat–Sun, 9:00am–6:00pm
Group Size: Individual
Location: Remote (from home)
Safe & Sound’s TALK Line connects Bay Area parents and caregivers by phone with trained peer supporters who understand the stress, isolation, and real-life challenges of raising kids today.
Our volunteers draw on their lived experience to offer emotional support and help callers feel less alone as they navigate the ups and downs of parenting in the Bay Area. We meet people where they are, providing non-judgmental support during stressful, confusing, or overwhelming moments.
Rather than simply giving advice or trying to “fix” a parent’s problems, TALK Line volunteers use an Intentional Peer Support (IPS) approach to focus on making real human connections that help parents feel seen, supported, and empowered to find their own way forward.
All TALK Line volunteers receive training, along with ongoing coaching and supervision from Safe & Sound staff.
To learn more about TALK Line, please feel free to claim a virtual meeting with our Volunteer Manager to discuss the volunteer position and our work.
Those interested in our individual volunteer opportunities can use our sign up form and submit an interest form or contact our Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager at volunteer@safeandsound.org or (415) 213-7416.

A reimbursement is offered to volunteers for this program, and the Volunteer Manager is available to help plan a menu and work through logistics of the event itself.

Group Size: 50+

Help parents select brand new toys, books, and clothing to give to their children as gifts for the holidays. Volunteers serve as personal shoppers, keep the storeroom stocked and styled, pass out gift wrap materials, and care for children while their parents shop.
