Even if we were to achieve all our other goals for improving children's health and safety in Baltimore, their well-being would still be at risk if the communities they live in remain inundated with crime and violence.
Baltimore must embrace a citywide strategy that is endorsed and implemented with active support from our top elected officials, members of every relevant branch of the law enforcement community, and leaders from business, civic and faith communities.
Baltimore's Safe and Sound Campaign has been working through its Operation Safe Neighborhoods and Operation Safe Kids strategies with city, state and federal law enforcement agencies and social service providers to develop a strategic and comprehensive approach to violence reduction and community safety for Baltimore.
