Hope is the word

On Thursday, 600+ people gathered together at the Fairmont Hotel to show their support for our one shared mission: to stop child abuse in our city. It was the 19th Annual Blue Ribbon Luncheon. I am proud that we raised essential funds to support the children and families we serve , but what really got me was the passion and excitement in the room. It was inspiring to see so many allies in one room dedicated to protecting children. It gives me hope that we can, in fact, end child abuse in this city. It gives me hope for the future of our community.

At the Luncheon, we premiered a video that we put together about the Prevention Center. The video touches on our work about the importance of Strengthening Families and that Five Protective Factors are key to preventing child abuse. It also gave a peek at some of our amazing staff and clients. Now, I’m excited to be able to share it with all of you.

But first, I want to say thank you. Thanks to everyone for spreading the word about child abuse — and the necessity of preventing it.  Although this is the last day of Child Abuse Prevention Month this year, please remember that our efforts to keep kids safe must be sustained each and every day of the year. As Katie said in her speech on Thursday, “child abuse is pervasive. It spans all zip codes, all cultures, all socioeconomic levels.”

Awareness is where we must start. Spread the word, educate your friends, family, and neighbors.

Without further ado, here’s the video.
